My fashion style seems to change constantly. Perhaps it’s just an excuse for my endless shopping, but I get bored of my wardrobe incredibly often. Currently I’m feeling very inspired by European fashion, and I am in love with the clothing and style of the characters on the British television show Skins. The show is an uncensored look into the lives of teenagers; it could be compared to Gossip Girl although there’s even more swearing, sex and nudity. Currently MTV is in the process of creating an American version of Skins, which I can say I am eagerly awaiting.
Each character on the show has their own unique style, but two characters whose style really stands out are Cassie (played by Hannah Murray) and Effy (played by Kaya Scodelario—she’s going to be big one day, watch out for her).
Cassie’s style is very ethereal and romantic; she has a way of being very put together and chic without looking like she even tried too hard. One of Cassie’s most noteworthy outfits was a vintage gold dress with a unique blazer that she wore in the first episode of the series.
I used this outfit of Cassie’s for my inspiration, with a golden sheen dress and tailored blazer. The very Cassie-like accessories include a pink hair clip, a necklace with several pendants, including a small clock, and for the most eye-catching part of the look I chose gold sequin high heels with a strap. The strap is something unique on high heels and was very much inspired by many of Cassie’s shoe choices. Here's my outfit inspired by Cassie.

While Cassie’s look is bohemian and girly, Effy’s is a lot more dramatic and has a very punk rocker edge to it. Effy wears a lot of black, along with chunky, heavy jewelry. She often wears short dresses with tights which where I took my outfit inspiration from.
I loved the Blue Lace Tunic from Free People because its romantic and a gorgeous color, but adding on the leather jacket, tights and boots gives the outfit a much tougher vibe which makes it feel like something Effy would wear. The jewelry intensifies the edginess even further. While this hard look is perfect for Effy, it can be mixed and matched to make the look softer or more personable. I personally could see myself wearing the tunic with the tights and boots on an early Fall day. Here's my outfit inspired by Effy.

The style on Skins is different from most of the clothing we see on American television characters. While a lot of the style on Skins is dramatic and loud, I find myself loving the unique, quirky fashion sense of each character, and watching the show has certainly inspired some of my recent outfits. I implore you to watch an episode of Skins and see if you can find any fashion inspiration from the show like I did.
